The best way to treat ourselves and each other, from a Native point of view, is with respect. In therapy, self-respect is promoted and self-deception is exposed.

A very good Native American story to illustrate this idea is given as follows:

A Navajo Grandmother and her Granddaughter were sitting under a tree on the high mesa preparing yarn for weaving. The Granddaughter ask her Grandmother, "Why is life so hard sometimes?"

Grandmother answered, "Life is hard sometimes because we all have a serpent and an eagle inside of us fighting. The serpent tells us that we are not worthy and not responsible. The Eagle flys high and sees with clarity."

"Which one wins?" asked Granddaugher.

Grandmother replied," The one you feed wins.

The serpent represents self-deception through ignorance and the Eagle represents self-respect through understanding.

Wolfleg Counseling is a safe environment in which clients can tell their stories and begin to heal. Wolfleg Counseling also offers instruction about how to over come many self defeating attitudes and constant negative self-talk.

Our goal is to help, encourage, and support you as you search
